When you get sick or injured, who will care for you if there are no one available?
Many people take healthcare for grant. Most will think that there will always be someone at the hospital if they need to be admitted, or an ambulance will always be available when you call 911. I have many friends who range from being an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), all the way up to being a Flight Paramedic. We are in a healthcare crisis, and the question is, why?
The general consensus falls within one of these categories:
- Toxic Work Environment – Staff shortages lead to unsafe patient-to-caregiver ratios, anger, frustration, and lack of quality of work/care
- Poor Pay – No one wants to work 12-hour shifts and have a good bit of those wages coming out on taxes, making you struggle to afford rent
- Board Restrictions – Most adults will get at least one non-violent misdemeanor in their lifetime. But, licensing boards make navigating approval/denial such a tedious task
I will push to protect the rights to those of caregivers. I would like to offer grants for critical fields where we need caregivers, such as NA’s, LPN’s, RN’s, RT’s, EMT’s, and Paramedics. This tuition giveback would add workers to our local hospitals, and, provide more efficient care.
We will push together to get more providers and caregivers into our rural hospitals and clinics!
